Hi Bren, Just looking through my notes from the lesson and am still a little unsure on the chord progression we did. Could you let me know if I am on the right track with this stuff? If so, I will knock out a nice backing track and write some lines. Please excuse the nonsensical language used: Harmonizing D major: I - D maj ii - E min iii - F# min IV - G maj V - A maj vi - B min vii* - C# dim In D Ionian: 1 (D) - Ioanian on the root/tonic chord 3 (F#) - this has a minor 3rd, as Phrygian is a 3rd up from ionian and phrygian has a minor 3rd - but it's also a minor chord because the 1st chord on D has a major 3rd from D to F#, but this chord on F# goes from that F# to an A (which is the 3rd to 5th of the D chord) which is a minor 3rd, as this 3 chord on F# has the major 3rd gap from a to C# 4 (G) - can keep playing the same mode as before over this chord since it is diatonic to the key 4m (G) - playing aeolian or dorian on the root of G - this is a iv to I cadence. The trick is to play Lydian off the root of D Ionian (so it's G Lydian), and then change to Dorian (which has got a minor 3rd in it, suiting minor 4 cadence chord) staying on the G! 5 (A) - not sure if this should be major or minor...sounds much better when it's major so that's what i'll do b3 (F) - what intervals would make up this chord??? 6 (B) - I guess I get to choose whether these last two chords should be major or minor 7 (C#) - ... Cheers, Steve.
